I write fiction with sustainable themes
Have you ever thought about what living on Mars, or in a spaceship would actually be like day in and day out? No one really wants to live on Mars. So we have to save this glorious planet.
According to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, our existing economy is Linear. We take materials from the earth, use them for a short or longer period of time and then discard them as waste. A circular economy is a different model in which we plan for there to be no waste produced in the first place. It is good for businesses, people and the planet.
We can save our planet and save money using Circular Economy Principles
For example, globally, about 450 million metric tons of plastic are produced every year and 9.5 million tons of plastic are thrown into the ocean annually, most of it single-use. A report from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation says that we are wasting 80-120 billion USD annually throwing all these materials away. And tragically, our plastic pollution is still increasing. By 2050 there will be more plastic in the oceans than there are fish (by weight).
Plastic is only one material to which we can apply circular solutions. The circular economy can be applied to fashion, construction and agriculture.
